First 5k

Well let's face it. I suck at blogging. But I like to add things every once in a while. I did my first 5k today. It was HARD. The hills were a challenge. But in the end I'm happy with my PR. My goal over the next year is to work on my 5k time. I want to get it down to 10 min miles. I think this is a goal I can reach in the next six months.

Took the kids biking tonight while I ran. We are trying to keep to a three day a week schedule. Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays. I think this schedule works because Monday we are trying to pull ourselves together for the week and Fridays we just want to hang out. I hope we can go and do some hiking or another fun activity on the weekends. I want my kids to continue with a healthy lifestyle into adulthood. Lead by example. Get out there with your kids. No it is not as easy as doing things on your own. Running by myself is much easier than making it a group activity. But they are going to see the results of getting out there and we are having fun together.

Got the family moving

Well I have finally gotten my family up and moving. My kids are riding bikes while I am trying to build up my running. The first week I did a 5min walking warm-up, 1min run, 5min walk, 1min run....for 2o min and then a 5 min cool down walk. Sounds pathetic doesn't it. Well this is what happens when you stop exercising at 21 and don't start again till 41.... So last week and this week I am doing a 5min warm up 2min run, 4min walk for 20min and then a 5 min cool down. Next week I will do 3min run, 3min walk....I'll let you know how it goes. I am super tired and want to sleep all the time. The kids are doing well. I'm starting them off biking to just get them out the door and having fun. Running around the neighborhood is not fun for them. I'll keep you posted!

Starting again.

I promise this blog will get better. My goal is to get the family out of the house and live a more active lifestyle. My girls and I are going to train for a run. Got it done....kind of....

Ok....first run of the year. It was mostly walking. My kids went with me. Me on foot, them on bikes. Half way around our second time around our very little neighborhood... my youngest's pedal fell off her bike. It would NOT go back on without a tool! So we headed back home. Pushing the youngest on her bike up the hill. I recently read an article about how there is an increase in the chance of having a heart attack in the winter. I now see why.

On the positive side. We got out there. Tomorrow we will try again.

Let's get this started.

I have toyed with the idea of blogging for a while. I am hoping that this will be a way for me to keep motivated. It's the beginning of a new year. I will not be making a new years resolution. My goal is to make resolutions about my life from this point forward. Goals for the long term not just the short. Short term goals are great to keep you motivated, but the long term are the bigger picture.

My goals are to become a serious runner. Get my children more active. And as a family I want us to have a few adventures. Get outdoors and away from so much technology.... :)

I hope everyone will share their ideas and adventures with me.
